This ride serves up the full Arizona recipe: open desert, sweeping roads, and a destination with serious character.
We’ll roll out from AJ and wind our way through Rio Verde, where the road stretches wide beneath classic Sonoran views, before arriving in historic Cave Creek, a town that still carries the spirit of its ranching and mining roots.
Our destination is The Grotto Cafe, one of Cave Creek’s hidden gems. Tucked into a beautifully restored historic building, The Grotto blends old Arizona charm with a menu that stands out from the usual breakfast stop. Known for its fresh-baked pastries, artisan breakfast plates, creative sandwiches, and locally loved coffee drinks, it’s the kind of place where scratch-made meets distinctly southwestern flavor.
The building itself carries a bit of Cave Creek’s eclectic history, reflecting the town’s evolution from rough-and-ready frontier outpost to one of Arizona’s most unique destination towns.
The ride there is half the magic: smooth desert miles, Rio Verde’s stunning scenery, and that gradual shift into Cave Creek’s rugged high-desert beauty.
